headlight removal
I have an 87 cbr 600 and i need to change the headlight how do I go about doing it. Do i have to remove the front faring or is there another way of doing it. thanks for any info you all can give me.

when i changed mine i didnt remove the fairing but it was a hell of a mess. then when i did it on my brothers bie i pulled the fairing and it was simple.
i didnt even pull it all the way just kinda hung it
good luck

i wouldn't let a $300 fairng just hang. you can reach the headlight BULB without removing the fairing, but it is tight. remove the speedo cluster to get a little more access. pull on the wire connector to disconnect. take the rubber boot off the back off the headlight. and the bulb is held in place with a little spring clip. undo one side and the bulb comes right out. when putting in the new bulb, to not touch the glass with your fingers. wipe it down with a clean towel to get any residue off, it shortens the life of the bulb if you touch it.
Take the fairing off, it may take an hour for the full job, but it'll be easier (and probably take less time) than the instrument cluster. I did mine last night to replace the speedo cable and while I didn't want to at first, it was much less frustrating with it out of the way.
almost the hardest part is just reaching the electrical plug. you dissconnect it before you take the fairing off, and reconnect after you put it back on. might as well just leave leave the fairing on. the speedo is held on with 3 bolts, takes 3 minutes to move it to the side.
