Default Upper fairing/headlight removal help.

Hey guys, I have a 93 900RR and after searching the boards I can't seem to find the answer.

I have a fiberglass replacement upper fairing (the part with the headlights). Its painted primer and looks ugly. So I found on
craigslist an oem upper, same color scheme as my bike so im
going to replace it with the oem one. Thing is, I don't know
where to start with getting the upper off safely. I know obviously
the headlight electrics unflug, but how many bots are there and
where are they located?

I searched but to no avail, does anyone have pix?
Also, does anyone have any suggestions for how to
replace the windscreen? It seems there are rivet like
bolts on there, and can't be undone? I want to replace
the OEM windscreen with the one thats on the bike now
because its tinted.......

Thanks in advance guys.

Getting the front fairing is fairly straight forward. Here is one of way of doing it (by memory, so it may be less than 100%).

-1 Remove the mid panels, left and right
-2 Remove the top covers (black covers with allen head bolts which cover the top sides of the side fairings)
-3 Remove the quick release pins from either side of the inner fairing panels and bottom of front fairing
-4 Disconnect turn signals and remove them
-5 Disconnect headlights
-6 Peel back mirrors covers and remove mirrors (unbolt the cap bolts on the inside) The fairing stays will now be loose, and the fairing is being held by the single front allen bolt
-7 Hold on to the front fairing from the front and remove the remaining allen bolt. The fairing should easily lift and come out
-8 To reinstall, do in reverse.

As for a tinted screen, I have one from Powerbronze. Perfect fit. You may find others out there, and I tried a few, and they all had fitment problems. I ended up destroying the rivets when removing the windscreen so I replaced them with windscreen allen bolts and wellnuts - much better in my opinion.

Good luck.

Could you be more specific on the location of the quick release stuff?

Thanks.

Sure.

I'm not sure quick release is the right term - they're really plastic body retainers.

There are 2 pull clips (black plastic retainers with a head - pull on the head and it release the retainer) on the inside fairing pieces, 2 on each side. There is also 1 phillips head retainer on each side - unscrew it as if it were a phillips head screw - just push the head in when installing them back.

Look at the microfiche http://fiche.ronayers.com/Index.cfm/...PER_COWL_93-94

The pull clips are items #30/32. The phillips head is #31

If you look at the bottom of the front fairing, above the front fender, you will also see 4 phillips head style retainers, same as #31. Remove those also.

Hope this helps.

PS: Here is a link to well nuts for the windscreen: http://kurveygirl.com/shop/product_i...roducts_id=131 If you want to use the rivet and clip, you can order them from Ron Ayers - you got the link

PPS: Feel free to PM me - I've had a '93 for 17yrs
