Hard to shift from 1st to Neutral....
I have a 1987 Honda Cbr 600f Hurricane, runs great, just one problem though, when I'm at a stoplight, I can't shift from 1st gear to Neutral, I've tried rocking back and forth and still even releasing the clutch a bit, and still no luck.
The wierd thing is that as soon as I turn off the engine it shifts from 1st to Neutral just fine.... all the other gears are fine shifting through upshifting and downshifting...
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
Ollie

my bike likes to not go into neutral alot also...which sucks because i have tiny hands and it hurts to have to keep squeezing the clutch and brake tryin over and over again to get it into N maybe its just a 600 thing? haha
ORIGINAL: nkx
my f2 was doing that, it seems to not do it as much now that ive had the oil changed back to factory recommended 10w40 from whatever the prev owner had in there.

If you or the previous owner did lots of burnouts, its possible your clutch driven (metal) plates are warped due to excessive heat buildup. Look for bluing/purpling on the metal plates and/or chunks missing from the drive (fiber) plates. Also your clutch outer basket could be grooved where the drive plates ride which would keep the clutch pack from moving freely in and out. Run your finger up & down the clutch basket grooves and if it doesn't feel smooth, you may look into replacing the basket. It could be like Kustom said and you have damaged shift forks or drum. If the bike shifts really hard from neutral to first, it could simply be idled too high, making it very difficult to get it back into neutral.
i had this same problem on my 89. although it seemed to happen only once hte bike got warm. changed the oil and had to play with the coolant system a bit. after that i havent had a problem since.
