Karl....I can't say for sure what it is, but I have the same thing. The bike has done it since I got it, and still does (now at 42K miles). From what I've heard, the transmission's on the F1's are known to do this. I could be wrong, and there may be a fix; but it doesn't seem like anything that ever got worse or caused major damage for me.

hmmm, here's a few things that could be causing your problem regardless of what gear you are in or what gear the tranny falls into.

1. gear dogs worn or damaged

2. bent shift shaft

3. shift drum stopper worn or sticking

4. worn shift forks

5. broken shift linkage return spring

most of this stuff can happen if the tranny was mistreated.

as for going from a 530 to 520, a 520 chain is narrower and less weight. it allows for better acceleration since the chain and sprocket combo isn't as heavy as a 530 set. a 520 chain cannot be used with 530 sprockets and vice versa.
