front sprocket

Default front sprocket

so i took my chain off and now im trying to remove my front drive sprocket so i can replace it with my new one. i put the tranny into gear so it wouldnt spin and i tried to turn the nut off. instead of it loosening after apply alot of force the tranny began to turn . how do i go about getting thris sprocket off??? any ideas please

If I didn't access to an impact gun, i would have left the chain on the bike while I had somebody holding the rear brake to help provide even more resistance than the tranny itself. Like I said, an electric imact gun works wonders in a situation like this.

I don't remember how I did mine, we did try the chain thing at once, and that may be how we got it off. I do remember it took a breaker bar, but I really can't remember how. However, I do remember it was a PITA.

Impact gun FTW took about 3 seconds to get it out.

Get the wrench on the nut, and then hit the end of the wrench with a hammer, not too hard. Just medium force. Usually, if you tap it 3 or 4 times it will finally come loose.

Next time leave the chain on and do it with the bike in neutral/rear wheel on the ground. that way you won't stress the mechanicals of your tranny.
