[QUOTE=argentum40;1100284]Ah sorry when i meant not engaged i meant with the lever not pulled in... or basically engine running with me not touching the clutch lever... when i pull the clutch lever the clattery noise goes away...
Hi argentum, something free and easy to try - check the clutch cable is adjusted properly. I had a similar prob after I lubed my clutch cable recently. Ern gave me some great advice. Might help you a little too...

I get a "whirring" sound after the engine is warm and I go about a mile down the road. (it is not a clunking, or ticking). The sound clearly has revolutions and speeds up and slows down with the bike. It is only present when the bike is moving. It is heavily noticeable when I slow down as the engine is not making as much noise, however, the whirring noise is just as loud, but the "whirring" sounds rotational, since the sounds slows down with the bike.
What I have done:
Taken out cct, cleaned and inspected. - It performs to spec based on Manual. Also, I assume it would be making the sound while sitting, and not just moving.
Checked Chain - Just as it should be, lubed, clean, right tension
Checked Front Sprocket - good
Checked rear sprocket - good

Here's a quick DIY since I happened to have my old speedo cluster in my room. It failed because of the 'whirring noise'
Take off your gauge cluster.
remove these 5 screws
then these 2 on either side the speedo cable connection. now would be a good time to remove the trip reset ****
and here we go, just the speedo by itself. Notice all the metal shavings from lack of lubrication.
all the gears are covered in dust and the plastic gear has worn down. make sure to spray this with wd-40 or some thin lubricant even some graphite. anything thick like a grease will not work.
I hope you get the whirring problem resolved soon. If it is your speedo, just please know that continued use will result in failure like seen above

Ok, just for you I looked up a few of my old videos I posted 5+years ago.
The first is a stock exhaust with the normal "whir" of the DOHC valvetrain, water pump, etc. Normal sounding(well minus the 13:1 CR and cams that is.)
The second is with D&D head back exhaust
You can still hear the stock "whir", but man does it sound a lot more angry. Ignore my idiotic yell at the end...
The third is a spirited cruise with the D&D.
