not if youre in the arcitc, using a heavier oil will actually damage the engine on startups.

Good point, but for the rest of us in civilization here, and particularly those of us in the very warm areas of the world, 5w30 is way light. I prefer my 10W40 whereever possible. my "family car" kinda requires 20W50 due to the extremity of wear to the engine. damn korean pos.

but I can see where thin oils have SOME use, but really I cant see anyone in FL ever needing a 30wt or 0W30(yes it does exist) oil for ANYTHING in this hot as hell state.

no god no, down there i wouldnt run less than 10w30 regardless of what the recommended grade is. lol but up here in good ol canada it was 41*f in nb today, and we get muuuuuuuuch colder. so i usually run 5w30 in jan. but anyway lol.

ORIGINAL: Hurricane rider

5w30 is too light for ANYTHING IMO. 10W30 is more acceptable, 10w40 is more appropriate for my motors, regardless what they are.
Ok then...........What will you do if your next vehicle purchase specs 5W-20?? Most foreign manufactures and Ford are beginning to spec 5W-20 in their new vehicles.
