Default Carb differences?

I have an all stock 1989. I just bought a K&N jet kit that says for use on a 1990 model only. Is there really a difference? Also plan on putting a pipe on it, not sure what to go with whether full kit or slip on or what brand to choose. Any help would be much appreciated thanks!

Personally? I'd just do a slipon, I dont think the full header setup really gives much gain over the stock assembly, I mean if you are just doing street riding, its a waste anyways because on the street you'll NEVER need all the power on tap. track is another story though.

There are distinctive differences between the 1990 model carberators. I don't know if it will work with the older carbs. As for a full exhaust, I ride 100% street and I must say they are definitly worth the money. They add power all throughout the power band.

1990 carbs had a larger venturi, and jetted richer from the factory.

Jets will work, needles wont. Dynojet kit for 87-89 come with different needles and 116-120 main jets.

90 Dynojet kit comes with different needles and 118-122 Main Jets.

Thanks anyways but I think I am just going to buy the kit. I also wanted to ask about my choke. It seems to be out of adjustment because it won't high idle when i put it on, it just wants to kill the bike unless I give it gas. Any ideas? My tech manual doesn't really go into detail about this. Also plan on changing oil today. What should I use synthetic?

don't use automotive synthetic oil. its best to use oil designed for motorcycles since the clutch shares the engine oil.

on my bike, when i set the choke, i have to give it a few revs and then it will hold a higher rpm.
