Default Bike getting fixed up and got some questions

Hey guys,
New here, sorta. I have been reading for a while and finally joined.

I got myself a 1989 CBR600f in a trade. The bike runs great, better than I would imagine, and has a whole 27k miles on it. No smoke, and decent mileage.

I am going to tear the body work down and do a snow camo wrap on the bike. The last guy did a shotty job on the body and paint work, so I am going to straighten in up and wrap it.

I called a local shop that does a good bit of business with my auto parts store and have some questions.
they quoted me 350 bucks to rebuild the forks, is that reasonable or a raping?
Seems aweful high since the seal kits are about 20 bucks on the high side.
I understand it prolly needs gliders and stuff, but wow 350 bucks for something I could do myself if I had time.

I am tied into the quad and dirtbike markets so I understand the inflation compared to most things, but that struck me by surprise.
I do work on quad's and engines for 20 bucks and hour which is cheap compared to shop rates of 80+ an hour.. maybe that's what drove the price up on me..
Ideas?
and who would you guys recommend for a fork rebuild?
Thanks,
Jeff

Also as an additional note it has a wierd sound around 5k rpm like the cylinders aren't all hitting.
Is this probably a sign of needing the carbs synched?

why do you want your forks rebuilt? are they leaking? if you you should be asking the how much to replace the seals, otherwise they are going to quote you for every part in the guts of the fork. just to put it this way, I had my bike inspected, new michelin pilot front tire, new fork seals, new steering stem bearings, new front wheel bearings, and a licence plate light for 800 and that was at a shop rate of 85/h

The seal on the right fork is weeping.. driving me nuts cause it gets oil film on the fairing on decent rides. They were telling me to replace glides and all since its a 1989.
If I wanted to get into forks I could do it myself, but I have way too much going on in the shop right now.

To add some clarification on my carb sync question. At 5k rpm or below at steady throttle it sounds like a studder. But if I roll in the throttle even a tad it picks up and sounds fine.

Since its an 89.......I would just replace the fork seals. Like the guy said, its an 89, no point in breaking your wallet on the thing. Before you know it youll have 10,000 invested in a 1,000 dollar bike.

On to your other problem, are there any mods to the bike? My first step would be a good carb cleaning, could be that theres a bit of gunk in one of your idle jet.
