Default 87' CBR600F Project

Workin on a CBR600 i picked up for cheap. 37,XXX miles. Just plan to make it rideable again and daily drive it. The bike has a full V&H exhaust system(at least the can, the headers are not stock) The airbox has all the holes drilled in the top with a UNI airfilter. I dont know if it has been rejetted or not and off idle its touchy, but on the last 1/4 of the throttle the bike pulls hard. 2 spark plugs were loose, but all had a good tan brown color (I assume its been jetted because of this). Fork seals are blown, so those need rebuilding. Has the common cam chain tensioner problem. Kid before me hit something and broke the fairing and headlight. Otherwise the bike is in excellent shape. Repacked the can and it has a very nice growl also. Just ordered up seals, APE tensioner, and one of those tank grips. What plugs do you guys run in these babies? It had NGK's. Any recommendations on oils and filters? Ride Red

nice bike, that looks like a good start.
fork seals aren't that tough to do, hardest part is supporting the bike.
id stick with ngk's, they're a good plug.
just get motorcycle rated oil, brands are up to debate.

I've stuck with OEM plugs, filter and 10-40 honda oil and had no issues.

Local dealership has Igniton advancers for around 55 bucks. Do these help? Does it decrease reliability?

Of course, i certainly don't need more power, i was just curious as to if these make any difference. Being a gear head, it just interests me what works and what doesn't.

The bike as it sits and the airbox. (Airbox sitting on my 81' Honda ATC250R...the original racer)

Changed oil and installed the CCT today. I read you could just turn it in until it felt like it was getting tight, then a 1/4 turn after. I did that, and started up the engine. Still made the noise. I tightened it probably 1-1/2 to 2 turns more until it was quiet but still a bit evident. I can hear the sound in the exhaust also. Could it be the valves are ticking besides? The bike does burn a bit of oil. What is needed in a valve lash adjustment?

only special tool required to adjust the valves is a set of feeler gauges. its prolly tight doing it with the motor in the frame. i did mine with the motor out, might be a little easier with the radiator out of the way.

i have a 86 ATC350x, along with an assortment of dirtbikes.

I just noticed (and then re-read) that your airbox is modded. That is a pretty distinct sign that some one installed a jet kit. I beleive the factory pro calls for airbox modification. No one would do that just for fun as it simply leans out your mixture and provides no benefits, and then coupled with a UNI filter will again only make it the bike run worse.
