600f emissions question
#11
There are a lot of bikes coming in second hand from the States (and Canada i guess) now. The drop in value after 10 years over there is more dramatic and there is no problem with the RHD/LHD issue as for cars. WE import 1000's of Japanese 2nd hand vehicles that won't pass emission or safety checks in Japan but will here.
e.g a 2007 model CBR 600RR would sell here for $12-14000 NZ ( about $10-12000 US ) and you could have your pick of those for $6-8000 US plus $1000 shipping.
Theres one on Ebay from a dealer n Chicago for $5500 with less than 10000miles on it and the Canadian $ is about equal. I should have got one when I was at the Calgary stampede last year!!!

Hey thanks for the effort on the scanning i'll enlarge them to read. The website seems to have a limit on file size. Could you send to my email titheridge@clear.net.nz ?? If you not having to pay for uploading that is. Don't know your internet charges in Canada.

Yeah, I noticed you are in Alberta, but I didn't have the bike then. After reading the article, I see it's primarily about racing and HP, which , as a Mature rider is not that important, I just want it to run smoothly without flat spots or starting issues.
The bike was written off by Insurers after a Bike vs Car incident a few Km from here and I picked it up at auction for a a few hundred $ without much ( well none actually ) planning. OK, I bought it by mistake really as it was on the same list as a VTR 1000 I actually wanted!! There, I've confessed, but don't tell my wife!!! I've become quite attached to the little cbr.
Incidentally, We were in Canada in July to visit my daughter who was serving with your Navy on the Athabascan for a year.

The article covers converting from a California model to a 49 state machine then bumping up the displacement within box stock racing rules of the day. Check out the dyno results with the changes. The results are not cheap but as they state later in the article its easier to get bigger results with just a pipe and individual filters.
I've had my Hurricane since new in 87. picked up a second one for parts and a third for more parts. Two are runners. The third has been cannibalized for the benefit of the others
Navy? I work with a guy who was stationed in NZ with the navy a few years back. I went on student exchange to Japan with a few Kiwis back in the mid 80's. I haven't made it there yet...maybe someday.

The Canada/NZ Navy exchange is a great thing. We just had a young Subby girl stay with us a copy of days as she, my daughter and the kiwi Subby she went with toured the South Island in our spare car. They are on HMNZS Te Kaha ( a frigate: Maori language for Strength. ) and HMNZS Canterbury ( a troop-carrier but a bit new for your friend to be on ) He may have been on Te Mana ( our other Frigate, we don't have that many!! which means Spirit in general terms )

Wide range of bikes
So you obviously not a "one Brand" fanatic then, what made you keen on the GSXR? I've nearly got the bike back together but haven't fired it up yet. I keep seeing other little things to do before this and that. You know, If I do that now it'll save me pulling it down again. Also, my hands are too big for many of the gaps and the eyesight is not as sharp so it takes me a lot longer to do basic jobs and some parts on these bikes are barely accessable with motor in frame.
Must finish before Volleyball season starts though.
I Have to decide whether I go cheap and do the streetfighter thing or spend more $$ and restore the fairings which were pretty busted up in the accident.

The old Suzuki was my next step from the Hurricane. I wanted a machine that was a race track refugee.. It was lighter and more powerful and physically taller machine. In its day it was a giant killer. I kept it for 11 years and replaced it with my 08 CBR1000RR.
I bought my first Hurricane in 1987 and still have it.
