Default Intro myself & a Carb question

Hi all,

I'm new to the forum. I recently purchased a 1991 hurricane from a policeman and love the bike, I've always wanted one. Its a Nice ride and fast as hell. I hope to be able to take it on a long ride up to thailand soon, that is when the rainy season finally lets up.

Anyway after riding for a couple months I ran into a problem. A little back note, I'm still looking for a mechanic that can work on older bikes. My old mechanic retired and his son isn't to keen on older bikes and its a pain to get the son to do any work on it. Back to my problem. I've noticed that when I'm at a traffic light or when I've shut off the bike there is a very very strong petrol smell. Also when I'm riding if I go over 115km/h the bike starts to loose power and sputter, it also is difficult to get going after a stop. It sputter and sounds like the engine is flooded and then all if a sudden it kicks in like I just hit the throttle like a mad man, but I haven't.

Now I'm guessing the carburetor needs to be rebuilt. I'm in no way a mechanic and fixing an engine is completely foreign to me.

What I'd like to know is if my hunch is about right and if there are any online shops you'd recommend to buy a carb kit. I did some checking here in Malaysia where I live and Honda said it would take 3 months for parts to come in and the cost they quoted me was frankly staggering.

Anyway hope to have some pics of the bike up soon and some of some rides.

Cheers
James

Welcome to the forum James.

Sounds maybe like you have a sticking float needle. Try running a tank of fuel with carb cleaner through her and maybe it will stop sticking. Try Seafoam or injector cleaner.
