Default Speedo ???

How is the speed read to the speedo..Is it off the crankshaft or ??? I thought I saw something in the shop manual about some sensor on the front wheel..
I went from a stock 16T drive sprocket to a 15T and speedo seams way off. Yes I know it will be off just wondering about where the speedo gets the reading from..Thank you for any help

The speed sensor is mounted to the top of the crankcase. You have to remove the fuel tank to get to it.

What year do you have? I know where you can d/l a free 08-14 service manual that has pics of the location.

Also, a SpeedoHealer can correct any speedometer error. I have one on my '08 with a -1/+0 gearing change from stock. It is now within 1 mph of the actual speed at 70 mph.
