they told me they could smell the bike burning fuel.
well that is exactly how a combustion engine works, it burns fuel

could they smell exhuaust, orraw fuel? did they see black smoke? smelling raw fuel or seeing black smoke could be an indication of a rich condition. just smelling exhaust is different. first thing to do is check the commander and be sure it has the correct program for the bike set up. i am getting ready to install one myself andmy bike is completely stock.looking through the map there is a signigicant change to the fuel curve according to the map. so if your buddies did not noitice an exhaust smell before it may have been due to the lean condition the bikes seem to have and the PAIR system pushing extra fresh air in on top of it.

more information about what was noticed will be helpful

Look at the instructions that came with the power commander, it shows you how to lean it out, you just have to do a couple of steps. Pretty easy to do with two people.

Everything I've read about the 1Krr says that unlike most other bikes they're rich in stock condition.

if you look at the mapping changes that DynoJet makes for a stock bike they are very lean through the etire midrange.
