problem stator of alternator
hi,
i'm italian. My byke is 05 cbr 1000 rr fireblade. My stator of alternator is burned. Honda service change it in garancy admitting that is a tragic flaw!!! but don't post this as official notice. In the other country? exist this tragic flaw? is official?
Sorry for the bad english

RE: problem stator of alternator
I work for a Honda dealership in the United States. I have never heard of this tragic flaw. I have, however, repaired a 1000rr with this same problem. The stator insulation breaks down over time and creates an open circuit to ground. This means that the stator never actually creates any current. If anything causes it, I'd say heat is a big factor. The 1000rr seems to have a higher operating temperature than several other bikes I've test ridden. The cooling fan doesn't even come on until around 220 degrees Fahrenheit. Excessive heat buildup can break down the plastic insulation on the stator coil wires and in stop and go traffic, my bike has climbed up to about 225 degrees on a regular basis. I'm guessing this is the cause of the stator troubles.

RE: problem stator of alternator
Yes..in Singapore this problem exists and is noted by dealers. The thing is..its covered only if it burnt during the first 3 mths for parallel import bikes and 1 yr or 10000km warranty if bought from the Honda agent.
Sadly for mine, its a parallel(grey) import and it burnt after 5 mths..replaced at my own cost. So far the 2nd generation of stators(magneto) doesn't have any problems..
