Your just asking for a world of trouble with that question. Its a highly debated topic....on one end of the spectrum they say go with Hondas gn4, others say fully synth such as mobil1 is great....the general consensus is use the weight listed in your manual. As for type and brand, its a heated debate, personally I just stick with Hondas gn4. Obviously its manufacturer approved, and seems to serve me well.

I actually work for honda and after posting the question I thought that it was a dumb question on my part. Thanks for the reply though.

Ya, in some forums I'd swear you were on a fishing expedition. Kinda like asking "I just got my license, is a turbo busa a good starter bike?" ha ha ha

HA HA HA HA HA HA! Good one. Oil is Oil. Honda's oil is made by another manufacturer so it really doesn't matter. I'm not gonna open the can of worms though.

I switched to Castrol R4 and it noticeably improved the smoothness of the transmision(sp) and the motor seems to generally run better. However, that is compared to the who knows what oil the previous owner had running around in there.
