Default niose from cbr1000rr5

Hi

Just got a 1400 mile CBR1000RR5, from a honda dealer in Preston UK

It seems to be 'pinking' upto about 3500rpms, also at slow speeds you can hear a rubbing noise when off the throttle mostly at slowish speeds (10-35mph)

Is this just normal ?

thanks
Leechy

Welcome in Leechy, Is it the stock can? Mine used to run like poo up to around the 2-3 thousand rev area. The reason I believe is the way the bikes are setup with fueling and exhaust valve to help them pass noise and emisions tests for new bikes. The valve starts openin at 3000 rpm and is completley open at 5000. I disabled the exhaust valve which helped alot. Then I got a Yoshi RS5 Can and that made it go away completley.

First thing i`d say do if it`s a stock can is check the idle speed, standard according to the manual is 1250 rpm when warm. I found that a little low for mine with the stock exhaust, if you up it by about 100rpm it should help.

Let me know any mods, and giz a shout if you need anything Where you live?

I live in Wallasey, Wirral

I got the bike from Preston Honda they only opened 4 weeks ago they used to be fylde superbikes in blackpool
I picked it up on sat morning

since then I have found it has got the wrong size tyre on the back only a 180 not 190, which they have agreed to fit a set instead of just a new rear tyre

The noise on over run is worse at slowish speeds off throotle if you even just get slightly back on the throttle the noise goes, also the throttle is very snatchy on and off the throttle.

I have only used premium unleaded fuel, the pinking is more evident in low gears at low rpm's in higher gears the intake is too loud to hear the pinking noise

thanks for the help

What type of noise is it? The pinking sounds like it`s the idle/exhaust valve setup But Quan`s right.. the dealer should help you out with it. Is the throttle snatchy all the way through the rev range and different throttle openings?

Just thought of something else that may not be helping with the throttle snatchyness, is the chain adjusted right? If my chain is slack then i get a delay like snatchy throttle. Also, it`s weird you have a 180 section tyre fitted.... the bikes only done 1400 miles the standard tyres should`ave been good for at least 3000 miles. Just wonder why it`s been changed?

But bein` so new to you I really would get it back to the dealer and give them a piece of your mind.

I'll second the loose chain as making the throttle seem quirky. Too much throttle cable play will also contribute to this. Over all though, the 1000RR FI has been flawless and smooth.
