Default Measuring up......

Im James and new to the forums. I was curious as to what everyone thinks about the new 1000rr and if it measures up or exceeds any other bike or 1000 you've ever owned? This is my 2nd 1000 and gotta say It's pretty impressive compared to the 05' R1 (Raven) I used to own. The only complaint i have is the oil consumption What does everyone else think? Also, in your opinion what are the best "bang" for the buck mods you suggest? Thanks-

I don't own a newer body style 1000RR, I have an 05. I do love it bike for the way it handles though. In 05, I almost bought an R1 because IMHO, they are one of the sexiest bikes ever made. But after riding one, with the no low end power and handling I couldn't cope with, I decided to go with another 1000RR instead. From what I've read though, the newer 1000RR's are fantastic. Honda's always seem to handle great. They are more refined than other sportbikes. They tend to make an entire package work together versus just having the most power. They make it easy to get on and ride fast. I think in 08 and 09, they were definately the ones with the bullseye on them, but lately, everyone else updating their bikes, and Honda kind of sitting on a design not many really liked, they may be slipping a bit. Honda really needed a new design for 2010, but they are waiting for 2012... at least thats the rumors. But from a pure performance standpoint, its hard to beat a Honda for a bike that can do everything.

As for mods. Its all up to you what you want. There really aren't any good bang for the buck mods. Most mods really don't add any signifant amount of power, so it really comes down to what you like. If you are looking for the best in a way to get the most out of your bike, get a powercommander and go to a reputable place and have your bike tuned. That will get you the best performance in hp, throttle response and ridability. If you want a slip-on or full system, get them before you have the bike tuned, or you will have to have retuned again.

Slip ons will add a few hp,(maybe) and add some noise.
Full systems will add a few more hp, but have to be tuned to do so.
Powercommander on its own will be good for the bike, but can be a bigger
benifit with other mods as well.

Also, the real bang for the buck for a seat of the pants feel would probably be a set of sprockets. 1 down in the front with 1 or 2 up in the back will really make the power come on sooner and the bike will feel like it has a lot more power. Probably the cheapest, easiest swap for gettting more power to the ground.

But, in the end. Its liter bike, and they are rediculous stock. Any mod you do should really be more of a personal thing that you want. You could spend 2 grand and only add 10hp. Its up to you and your goals.

Personally, I'd do a slip on, power commander and a set of sprockets.

I think they are stunning bikes, but at the moment i would not dip into buying one until this underlying oil consumption issue has been admitted by Honda and sorted out, if you look at the used prices of these bikes in the uk, an RR8 can be lower than a similar mileage example of an RR6 or RR7.... word is out and potential buyers are getting more aware of this problem, you could end up buying a lemon, and there is little faith in the 09 or 10 models as well, given the engines are exactly the same..... just be aware that this oil issue could reduce your selling price and/or make it very hard to sell in the future.

Yeah, those were my thought aswell.....Im pretty disappointed by the oil consumption issue but i can deal with that speaking of which i gotta add some oil before i ride her again Im thinking about just converting to 520 and at the minimum +2 in the rear and calling it a day. Litres bikes don't need anything to add HP theres more power there than 90% of the people who buy the bikes are capable of using and a litre bike stock IMHO is more than capable of beating any 750/ or highly modified 600. SO, Thanks for the inputs guys and safe riding.....
