Default LOW FUEL LIGHT !!!!! Help

I went 160 miles on my last fill up and no fuel light. granted last time i filed the tank i put as much as i could in it until it almost overflowed. when i filled the tank after the 160 miles it took 3.4 u.s. gallons. from what i understand the 04 cbr1000rr has a 3.9 gal tank with a 0.9 gallon automatic reserve. so after 3 gal the light should have illuminated.I dont care to be stranded due to light malfunction. normally i go 140 miles and light comes on. this symptom acured when both my running light and low beam light blew at the same time (recently posted). what should i check???

Were you doing a lot of freeway riding?. Maybe you were getting better mileage from taking it easy on the throttle. I know my 954 used to go 160+ before it would come on but my 06 1000 only gets about 140 before it comes on like you said.

i think i will run it down a bit and see if it comes on. maby i should carry a letre of fuel in a secure container in case i run out until i confirm the light will come on.

Your ok. I have gone around 160 miles without the light. I was behaving and lots of freeway riding.
On the other hand, when I misbehave, I have had it come on at 129 miles.

You should be ok like Roach said.
I believe the "total" fuel capacityis 4.8 gallons.
The "reserve" is after 3.9 gallons are expended. You still have 0.9 gal to run on till you have to get off and push.
150~160 milesbehaving. 130 milesmisbehavin. sounds about right.

When you key on, does all you indicator light come on for a sec. then go out?
If you fuel indicator light comes on, it works.

edit: btw I wouldn't suggest "carrying" fuel, itcould getextremly messy. [sm=badbadbad.gif]

If i ride my pace which is normal for me it comes on at 124 exact every time. I went for a ride along with my dad back in the first of june and i got like 160 plus before it ever came on. I follwed a VTX1300 for about 60 miles and i thought a turtle was going to tell me to get out of the way. My dad believes in 10 under on every speed limit. I got worried also when my light didnt come on at 124.Hope this helps

Thats why you ride at high speeds, if you run out of gas you can coast to the gas station lol.

Im about the same way I get nervous when it doesn't come on around 140 miles. I just make it a point to fill up if I hit that mark and if it does come on I go no farther then 10 miles just to be safe.

Also try and fill up at the same station (brand) I notice different milage distances with different stations.
