Loosen your rear axle nut. At the end of the swing arm are adjuster nuts and there are guides as well (with little marks). Tighten the nuts to tighten the chain. Make sure both sides are exactly the same on the guides so that the alignment is correct. Go slow and adjust each side 1/6th of a turn at a time. Make sure you check the chain slack again after tightening the axle nut back down -- that can affect it sometimes. You should have about 1" slack when everything is torqued back to specs.
The instructions for ajusting the tension is in your owner's manual -- for the 2006 it starts on page 148
I don't think it's necessary to lube the chain after every ride, but it certainly isn't going to hurt anything.

The axle nut is a 1-1/4 " diameter. $7 part at true value hardware
The nuts that tighten your chain are 12mm open end wrenches. I would use two. Just takes a second or two longer with one doesnt really matter.
A rear stand works wonders too.

You should have 1" of play in the middle of the chain. That means halfway between the front and rear sprocket, you should be able to move the chain a total of one vertical inch. If you only have 1/8" at standing, you will likely snap your chain once you start working the swingarm.
+1, I did the chain adjustment today too with a 6-point 1 1/4" socket, tight fit. I got all the info from the Honda's manual, it even has pictures for help. Just make sure you ajustments are same on both sides of the swingarm, it has the scale that you can refer to.
