Default Chain freeplay

Does anyone think the 1-1/4" freeplay in the chain seems excessive? My 600F3 only had 9/16" although the swingarm is quite a bit shorter. Seems funny to see the chain ride across the guard on top on the swingarm.

1 1/4" is the max I'd let it go. I try to keep mine at 1". We have some severe bumps around here and I've yet to max out the chain.

Chainstretcher,

When you measure the 1", is that from the point where the chain naturally sags to the same point of the chain after you push it upward with minimum pressure?

That's pretty close to how I check it -- only difference is I push it down slightly and then push it up. And as you see from the pic 1" is O.K. If your chain actually made it to 1 1/2" you'd notice a helluva racket upon rapid deceleration using engine braking.

Be careful following the manual to the "t" -- it also says to torque your rotor bolts to 14 ft/lbs. I farkin dare you to do it ... c'mon, it's a dare ... a triple dog dare ... ya, that's what I thought ... puss[8D]
