ANYBODY EVER STORED FOR AT LEAST A YEAR?
I am in the military and am being sent overseas for a year then they will ship it to my next duty station. Has anybody ever stored a 1000rr for at least a year, or know what I should do. I don't know if it is going to be kept in a climate controled storage yet. All I know is that I can't bring any pieces of it with me. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

As said, add Stabil to a full tank, take battery out and either put it up on stands or roll it onto a strip of carpet, plywood or similar. If the tires sit on concrete for an extended time period they'll start to dry rot on the area touching the concrete.
When you get it out of storage, change the oil and filter and run the gas with stabil - or syphon it out for the mower or something. Check tire psi too, it'll go down quite a bit.
Couldn't hurt to get a breatheablebike cover either.

yeah i store every winter (6 months usually),
Full tank of good gas fuel stabil (reccomened amt.)run it 15 minutes to mix and work into the system,
oil change, ride it for a day or so
if it is on concrete (warm or cold) put something under the tires(not cardboard it is the worst)because it will pull the moisture right out of them and they will crack.
pull the battery (trickle charger helps) keep it in a warmer place if you can, that always helps.
cover the exhaust and possibly intakes to keep mice out if nec. (i stuffed a sponge in mypipe when it was in my shed)
cover her up last thing you want is 6 inches of dust and have to spend 2 hours cleaning it the first chance you get to ride again.

+1 on the stabil, however make sure you run the bike above 5k rpm to get the treated fuel into the second set of injectors. I would change the oil before and after the storage. You can go one step further and remove the spark plugs, put a little oil into each cylinder, and rotate the engine a few times to spread the oil around.
One other bit of advice is to make some videos and pictures, before you leave. They helped me get through some ****ty days in Iraq.
