Yeah I agree the dealer is a retard, I don't trust some of them any way, I've found that I knew more about the bikes than they did at times.

If you have one around that has been removed from a bike altogether, hook it up to a dyno bike and watch it work. Not the whole thing, but just the valve. It needs no power, just a vacuum line to show you what you want to see. Or break it open and look at the inside and you will see the diaphragm section. The electronical portion can be found in the servicemanual for the bike.

So you've witnessed this on a late model CBR1000?

That's great, but I'm still curious how Ty was able to post 4 paragraphs about a function that doesn't seem to be documented or spoken of anywhere.

so let me get this right... if the about 5 inch wide valve stays open all the time the mod has been done on the bike. if you crank it and the valve is closed the mod has not been done to the bike. is this right? i bought the bike used and was not sure if it had been done or not.

Yes. With the engine idling, the valve will be open if the mod has been done. If it's closed, the mod has not been done.

If you needto disable the flapper valve, the simplest thing to do is just unplug the electrical connector to the solenoid valve. You don't have to mess with the vacuum hoses if you don't want to. If you have the '04/'05manual, the solenoid valve andelectrical connectorcan be seenon page 6-73.
