600 vs 1000
So you got a liter bike for cheap speed? That's why I hate it: imo, wrong reason to ride a bike.
From what I have read, and what I have experienced 600's will give 1000's a run in the quarter, mabe even make the liter rider sweat a bit to make up ground. Liter bikes are hard to launch stock because all of the torque makes the front hard to keep down. the 600's dont have the torque so they make the power much later giving them an advantage on the launch.
However, that all changes really quick if you either top 100 mph, or are playing from a rolling start. Even with my 929 that is just shy of a liter, catching 600's on the run or simpley pulling away from one side by side is childs play above 30 mph. on the dyno the story is very clear. I went with a friend a year or two ago and we did base lines just for fun, my 2000,929 and his 06 GSXR600. His bike dynoed in ats 108hp at the tire at like 16000 rpm . My 929 dynoed at 129.8 at 1050rpm.
On another occasion I happened on to an old road I knew well with lots of sweepers, another 600 tried to make a run from the pack, I would follow him into a curve then coast in and get back on the throttle first, overtake him, run away to 120mph or so then back off and let him fly by. Then settle in, find my line and do it again and again, and again.....ect. ect. ect. The extra power made it easy fro me to brake first set my line and then throttle first with settled suspention and rocket away every time. It was never a problem.
Of course neither of us do track days and I had about 15 years of experience over him, since he was much younger and had only ridden a year or two.....

Fast cars just dont give the same thrill as bikes though kuroshio. My buddies evo makes 600hp detuned on pump gas and i drive that all the time. Its definitely fun to drive and we walk 600s all day in it but i have way more fun on my f4i. You just feel like youre straddling a rocket and sitting inside a car cant compare to the openness of the bike. Being a passenger in a car like that is also way more fun than driving it. When youre behind the wheel its like yeah that was fun but when youre in passenger seat and not in control you crap your pants and it feels way faster. The bike gives me that rush all the time though so in my opinion you cant compare a bike to a car. As for hubbard my friend used to be able to launch his stock gsxr1000 before he stretched it. If i can find the youtube video of him launching it stock ill post it. Its definitely hard as hell like you said but it can be done.
I understand speed, nickp123. First time I drove my gf's VW she freaked saying her car wasn't supposed to sound like that.
Me: "Like what?"
Her: "Like a race car"
I was born with a lead foot. I just control my wrist when riding. And honestly, speed isn't all that fun to me...now. It's just a result of impatience...now
Enough smiles from the Speed Gods while doing 80+ over the limit and rolling one car 7 times kinda knocks some sense into ya.
I have more fun maneuvering anyways. Takes more skill and focus. Unless it's somewhere the launch and shifts matter (drag race), anyone can pin the throttle and think they're doing something (that goes for 600s too).

Nick, you read too much in to what I was saying. Im not saying you cant launch a liter bike, it is just way easier to consistantly launch a 600. launching a liter bike is a lot more work and practice. A 600 has less low end power, so the front is just a bit easier to keep down and make full use of what is there till the engine gets into its sweet spot. the liter bike on the other hand hits that sweet spot just off idle and can be a handfull.......some people do master the skill though as you mentioned. the truth is its compareing apples to tater tots......they are to completely different animals indeed . on a short tight course it is a fairly close game. Open the straights up a bit and the game changes considerabley. I think more than anything it becomes more of a personal choice than anything else, both will quickly give you more trouble than you want on the highway.
oh no i absolutely agree with both of you but as for me I just find the thrill and rush of the acceleration way more fun than speed. Blasting to 40 or 60 or 80 or whatever entertains me way more than riding at 100 or 120 mph. Top speed isnt my thing I just like being able to bang through the gears in a car or on a bike even if i stop at only 50-60 mph. Everyones got their preferences though and there arent a lot of twisties by me and i was always around drag racing growing up so thats just why its my thing. Yeah i know what you meant hubbard sorry if i made it seem like i interpreted it as you were saying its impossible. Its obviously way harder to launch a 1000 than a 600 but with enough practice you can do anything and some people are just better at it than others as you said. Thats all i was getting at. And im hoping ill start doing some more riding in twisties or do some track days over the summer and maybe thatll become my new love interest instead. Who needs girls right?.....right?.....guys?....
LOL, post are somtimes hard to read a persons mood or intentions from. But Yeah I get what your saying. I too am hoping to get into doing trackdays for a new rush. As I have gotten older, I am less entertained by speed as well. I am having more fun riding and carving corners. but it is a lot of money to get started, and track days are expensive each time you go as well.... with a wife and 2 kids I have priorities that keep putting track days on the back burner..... Im hopfull though.
