Default 520 conversion ?

>Hey all ,
I see t hat there are different sprockets available for the 1000RR ...
so what will a 520 conversion do ? as far as acceleration , chain wear , and speedo reading ?
also will the PCIII recalibrate for any errors in the speedometer ?

Thanks again

A 520 conversion will give you less un sprung weight and will help acceleration and braking.
As far as chain wear , that will depend on what kind of sprocket you pick (best to go with a hardened aluminum or steel for the best wear).
I don't think your Speedo will be off if you go back with the stock gear count , and your PCIII only effects your bikes fuel injection .
If you need to recalibrate your Speedo due to a gear changer go with a Speedohealer , they work great.

but what exactly is meant by "520" any way ?
I was thinking that the stock front cog was the same but the rear was smaller allowing for quicker acceleration but slower top speed (who needs top speed I live a city) also how does it reduce unsprung weight ? there is a lot I need to know about these awesome two wheelers .

520 is just an identifier for the chain -- 5 = 5/8" between pins and 20 is 2/8" in the center. A 530 (stock chain) is 5/8" between pins and 3/8" in the center. It reduces unsprung weight because the 520 chain weighs less than a 530 chain so any portion sitting on the sprocket weighs less than the corresponding 530 chain -- a 520 sprocket also weighs less than a 530 -- way less if you go aluminum. Also get HP quicker because less rotational mass. I've used Vortex aluminum rears before and had excellent results.

A smaller rear sprocket will INCREASE top speed but decrease acceleration. A bigger rear sprocket will DECREASE top speed but increase acceleration. It's exactly opposite with the front sprocket.

According to DID's web site, a 520 chain should only be used for bikes up to 750cc. But I'm not sure if this applies to all chain manufacturers. I suspect that the torque of the bigger bikes would stretch a 520 much faster than a 530. I wouldn't recommend it.
