hey guys, am i missing something here.....i know for a fact that the 08's (certain production numbers) had clutch plate problems. matter of fact a recall was out, and new clutch packs were put in the bikes that met the numbers....fixed the problems such as you have mentioned...some showroom floor models were fixed even before being sold.... i even asked about this today at local honda because they ( left over 08's cbr1000rr) have been discounted another 1000 bucks....so i am reallllllllllllly looking now at the 08 .....

YES..............you are missing something here. What we are talking about in this thread is NOT the clutch recall. It is a totally separate transmission issue.

From what I can tell, it only seems to be a problem on the very early 2008 models. It is not a problem on all of the units, so they must have fixed the issue at some point in production.

To be safe, I would ask the dealer how they would handle this if your bike has this problem. My unit was affected, and my VIN was in the 00700 range. If you have a choice in units, I would take the one with the later VIN.

As far as the clutch recall goes, just tell the technician that performs it to be VEEERRY careful to re-install the original spring seat that goes on before the 2 large clutch springs.

Good Luck!

Default 5 to 6 false neutral

I am having the same problem. I can shift at any speed or RPM and have it zing out then slam back down into fifth gear.
Every one in 30 shifts.
Does anyone know of a fix for this problem?
600 miles on bike.
Non aggressive break-in period is really working. I already broke it.

My 08 has been doing this too it only seems to do it when i'm upshifting from 5th to 6th at low speeds like 65 and below. If I'm WOT it wont do it.. Scares the **** out of me tho when I'm just crusing starts clunking and **** acting like a Kawi gear box!!!

I ended up trading mine for a 2009 model. You may want to try the Factory Pro shift stars. I have heard that they might work.

my o8 is a low 300 number bike it shifted buttery smooth when it was new i put rear sets on it at less then 300 miles. with the rear sets it makes the shifting positive and firm have no issues shifting just the dealers screwing up the clutch
