I used to do exactly the same Nutter after having a label stolen many years back, then our State Gubbermint stopped putting rego labels on vehicles last year, so...................problem solved.

our tax discs take the form of a little one inch squared sticker (different colors every year)
which you then put on stick on your rego plate with the year of validity on it. This is also
matched to an accompanying registration document/receipt issued with it.
You can't get this without paying the excise tax and showing proof of insurance
at the Bureau of Motor Vehicles or the Local Town Hall which functions as an
Agent for the BMV.

Similar System essentially - quick glance at the plate lets the cops know if it's legally registered
and insured.

had mine on the chaingaurd bolt but suspected in was contacting the frame when suspension was compressed so recently mounted it behind the left exhaust bracket so only need to remove the nut to take it off when changing the disc

They've been abolished here for light vehicles and motorbikes so don't have to worry about them anymore.

I haven't heard of it before and assume its a puck.
If so, I'd be inclined to stick it in my pocket too.

We have a sticker like the one Sprock described. It has wavy cuts through it and if someone tries to remove it they will destroy the thing.
