Going to replace my thermo switch assy. Cooling fan is not coming on soon enough. I also am going to replace the thermostat this summer. I had the front wheel bearings replaced last summer. Current mileage is 35,900.

Why not just add a manual switch ?

There has been discussions about this topic. The general feed back form the members is that the fan does not come on until the needle is almost in the red. That is normal.

Perhaps the gauge should have been designed different as not to scare the riders.

Maybe I just didn't notice in prior years. Once the needle hits the red bar, I get nervous, especially if the cooling fan isn't on. I already bought the parts so I"ll do it for preventative maintenance.

Last summer, I noticed some coolant spitting out on to the right side fairing which made me start watching the temp gauge closely.

I like that idea http://www.cbr-riders.com/forum/imag...s/smiley20.gif a gauge that never gets too high .... beauty mate !!! :icon_hyper:
Seriously though .... check the cap if she is expelling water from the overflow..
As Pete said , the easy work around is just whack in a separate manual switch :)

My answer to this problem is to just avoid going into built up areas where I have to go too slow for too long ... http://www.cbr-riders.com/forum/imag...s/smiley20.gif

The only time I usually hear my fan is when I get home and because of where I stash her, that's in nice and safe place , it takes me a few minutes to maneuver her in and the temp tends to set the fan off by the time shes parked ... but its worth it to put her away in a place where it is a bugger to try to steal her from :)

Mine comes on in just about any traffic. When the needle travels just above the 1/2 way point, the fan kicks on.
I wonder if it's just different on the more recent ones?

I think I'd be concerned if mine went to the red, too.. if I wasn't used to it.

YUP !!! ...I hit the panic button as soon as mine gets about 3/4
I have been known to use footpaths as my Uturn and escape path when jammed in traffic , if she gets real warm !!!

Its ....LOOKOUT PEDESTRIANS :icon_bike:...OM OUTTA HERE :icon_hyper:
