Default TURBO/WEIGHT REDUCTION

So here it is,
I bought a 1993 1kf, it was nice to get back on a 1000cc. I love the bike, mainly because of it's size and comfort. I do however need more power. I'm a speed freak at heart, and this winter I want to make this bike just ridiculous sick. Currently, I'm planning on getting a jet kit, bros exhaust, and possibly direct/ram air via some custom formed tubes basically just from the front underneath the radiator to the air intakes on the air box. I've heard from some other posts that people have at least seen a turbo on this bike. Does anyone know how to do it, who did it, or what they used?

Also, my buddies and I are thinking this bike could go low 10's if not very high 9's if it would lose a little weight. Does anyone know of anyone scrapping stuff to save weight? Does anyone know if there is an unnecessary amount of weight on the bike that can be lost?

Thanks!

Turboing is just too expensive and in most cases you have to leave the fairing off and it looks damm ugly.

Ram air is bloody hard as there isn't much room to route tubes.

If you want more power buy a more powerful bike.

Trips, is right... get a faster bike!!!!!!!!! Some, have quoted...609lb,w/ gas!!!!!!!!! First ditch the waterpipe frame (go spondon!!!!!!!!) Then, hate to hide that alloy maserpiece, but if you must... 1off CF body, seatbase, tank. Racer type controls (clutch, brakes, rearsets)
Aftermarket wheels, sprockets, calipers, disks. Ti pipe. Swingarm too.

Now it's only is overwieght, compared to most everything w/ better suspension, brakes, better wind drag specs... and 40+hp more.

NO5, the cheap(er) way, to go fast.

Keep the stock frame, brakes and suspension, wieght... IMHO, you will find it a scary, "kill ya" bike, if you strap on too much hp.
Clean and free, Ripp'n

nice to see some one from iowa first off.. a little info, go to tts-performance.co.uk use the links, a lot of the products are state side..
there is a big bore kit, nitrous kits, dyna tech has ignitions, lots of go fast parts. they might also have a link for the turbo. its a cool sight to checkout. i have read that some of the guys with the cbrs are launching at 4k and slipping the clutch and they are posting times 10.2 to 10.7
good luck with the go fast idea, let me know if you find anymore go fast parts, i'm always lookin for more performance out of her( it must be an iowa thing)

Hey:

I have seen two turbo kits 1 rear remote that leaves the front fairing intact, and
1 front that needs the fairing removed or really modified to fit and the CBR1KF as Trips stated looks really bad
without it unless really tricked out.

On the second point about a Spondon framed bike would handle less than a new bike, have you ridden a Spondon chassis.
As most any Harris or Spondon chassis handles as good or better as any new bike and they are lighter, the downside is,
they would not be the ticket for long rides then, unless your real young or very pain tolerent.

My 1988 bike has had quite a few mods Wiseco ceramic coated forged big bore kit, f/s carbs, K&N pod filters, Barnett clutch Kit, very reworked
head (Stainless Manley ex valves, Ti Intk, race springs, Race ported, ceramic coated, NOS nossle drilled), megacycle cams, turbo cut tranny, newer
oil cooler, falicon knife rods & crank, regeared to 17/45, V&H CF SSR2 pipe, chem treated chain and cryro hardened gearset, most work done in the
early nineties and other than the carbs which I change when going to the drags,(93 up carbs on dailey) is street ridden. In the last year I have also
changed to an Ohlins shock, the wheels to vfr front and rc 51 rear, Metzeler sportecs 120 frt/ 190 rear, 97 1100xx swingarm, front rotors, calipers
and forks, custom 4 bolt 4mm x 256mm rear disc, reworked triple clamps, 43mm bored vf1000r handlebars, a CBR1100xx top front fairing and 93
up tank and rear bodywork. The bike is still heavy but turns mid/upper 10s all day long at the drags, and ridden to and back without NOS and put a
few Busas, R1s and other newer bikes in the pits alot earlier than they planned. The engines seem very reliable, other than cam chains/tensioners,
even under NOS.

My bike has been ridden in 120+ heat and had less cooling problems than some newer bikes I was with. I would just ride yours and upgrade what
you don't like, just keeping in mind that you can't do all the hooligan things the newer bikes can without a big time investment and when all said and
done, A different bike like a CBR1100xx, FJ1300f, BMW 1200, Busa, zx12r or zx1400 may be cheaper in the long run and easier to get hotrod parts
for as they are whats hot now. Maybe get one of them, do it up, like you want and then some years later do an update.
Thats what I did with 2 of the bikes I owned and still have.

I have also ventured into the bike of the moment (CBX,CB1100R,CX500Turbo,VF1000R,CBR1000F,CBR600f2/f4,CBR900RR& RC51sp1) a few
times and probally won't do it again, unless I go to an old man's bike like a Goldwing, and then probally only buy a used one at that,
and thats a long way down the road... as none of the bikes do it all for me as the old CBR1KF and CBX the only 2 I have kept..

I didn't mean to ramble on but any bike is what you make it and as long as you stay aware of its limits and focus they can be a whole lot of fun..
Heres some pics of bikes to make my point, also I think Trips had some pics a turbo cbr1kf:
