Default Tire Sizes?

Hey everyone,

Im lookin to replace tires on my 95 1000F and I was wondering what was the best size for the rear tire that you guys have found. I am running a 180 on the back now and its ok but I was wondering if it hinders the bikes handling abilities having a bigger tire on there. I took it to 'the dragon' in Tennessee last summer and it did great but I was just gettin an opinion.

Thanx,

1100FFreaky Fast

I've got a '93 model and find that a 180 on the rear slows the steering down just a little, but it stops the head shake that occurs between 40 and 50 mph. The bike feels more "planted" with the larger rear tire. Also with the lower profile of the 180, the overall diameter is slightly smaller than the stock 170 which helps slow the steering by effectively increasing the rake of the front end.

I had 190s on my rear before and the bike felt heavy on twist and turns but real stable on high speeds. So now I have 180s on the rear it feels fine.

My last tires were Pilot Powers. The pilot sports aren't worth having.Great grip at first, when I hit about 3000-3500 miles it went away suddenly. Alot of us have tried them around here and we have all had the same result. I have switched to Dunlop Qualifiers and I think it a superior tire in most every way.
