My fuel gauge is **** and I rarely go over around 240 km. I know there is plenty there but I dont want to push it home. Once I use a quarter of a tank my fuel gauge drops away quickly and doesnt give a real indication of how much is in there. Im more often than not opening it to check it.

^ Mine may drop quickly but I have not noticed. I keep my eye on the odometer and look at the fuel gauge now and then. I really don't care if it's real accurate. I know that when it hits the red I have 1 gal in left in the tank and will be switching to RES soon. I was thinking about cutting the RES tub to get more before switching but decided not to.

If your not on RES, no need to panic. I ride with guys that want to hit the pump as soon as their needle moves. They start to panic at 1/2 tank. These are the same people that run their tanks to empty in their cars.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Like Bordo my 1990 1000F has a fuel gauge that simply is useless - after the first
gallon it hits empty - have to use the trip meter on it .

The 93 on the other hand is right on the money

Just finished a 600 mile trip and got right at 50mpg on roads that were twisty and cruise ones as well.
At almost 5 gallons before reserve 200 miles is easy.

Now my commute milage is another matter. All twisty roads, warm up and a little city traffic jams is right down to about 35-40mpg. I fill up when gauge reads empty works out to 120 miles or so.

Individual results may vary.

well did a brim to brim check today and got 127 miles (gauge showed empty at 110 but still running on main tank) to 14.4l of petrol so just over 40mpg on mixed roads (motorway/a road/b road)
so is 40mpg about right for one of these old buses?

and on a side note my a$$ is feeling very secong hand after 365 miles in under 6 hours

Depending on how hard you twist your wrist, 40mpg doesn't sound too bad on those type of roads.
