Default Stuck Valve Adjustment Screw. Help!

I've got an '88 CBR1000f and it has the flathead valve adjustment screws instead of the hex ones. Anyways, I'm attempting my first valve adjustment and I hate to say it, but somehow one of the intake valve adjustment screws has become stuck and will not budge. I'm afraid it's going to strip if I try to loosen it with a flathead screwdriver. Does anyone have any suggestions? I really don't want to break anything. Help!

Well, I was able to get the adjustment screw loose, but now I can't get the locknut to tighten back in place, as it appears the thread towards the bottom of the adjustment screw is stripped.
What a mess of a night.

Thanks. How big of a job is it to get in there to replace this screw?
