Default Starting Problems

I had a starting problem after I read all the info I could get from this site we start. We did the following and now isStaring like new. 1. We first clean the starter clutch. 2. We replace the drive chain between the starter clutch and the crank. 3. We replace the the battery but we instead of the 12W14a battery we put a 12W16A battery in. We modify the battery box a bit. We cut the box from the side and stick the battery in from the side. [8D]the only now to do is riding it and enjoy it.

Default RE: Starting Problems

Check the charging rate at the battery before celebrating.......voltage should be around 12.5-13V with ignition off, and between 13.5 - 15.5V after motor has started and is running....anything less than these figures, and you still have a regulator/rectifier problem.....
Also, keep a watch on your battery water level.....CBR's will cook the battery if the reg is faulty, boils all the water out, then cooks the reg/rec PROPERLY.
Been there, done that....5 times due to faulty field coils in stator.......
I hope it's all unneccessary, but cheaper to check......

Listen to Shadow, he right about that regulator.

BTW, What is the "chain between the starter clutch and the crank"? Wouldnt that be the flywheel?

I think he's talking about the primary drive chain, Gill, replacement of which entails removing the motor and splitting the cases, as far as I know.....if not the only other chains are the camchain and the main drivechain and sprockets .......unless I'm missing something.....

Seems a bit much for a "no start" to crack the case. I wouldnt be surprised to find out that Bikerinlove had a bad ground at the battery side and re and re the battery fixed the problem. I've seen soooo any ground/earth related problems.

It sure would be nice if Honda included a voltage and oil pressure guages...

Starter motor brushes (?) More likely bad earth, or problem with starter solenoid......
Too right about the gauges - more info you have the better.......
