Default Starter/ engine stuck temporarily.

Hello all,
I have a great running 1993 1000f with 10,800 miles that is all stock. The other day I went to start it cold, and it turned over as usual, while on the center stand, and suddenly a loud metallic clank occurred within the engine. I tried the starter again and it acted as if the engine, or starter was locked up. I tried a few other times , with clutch in and in neutral and still acted as if the starter or engine was locked. Took it off the center stand , put it in 5th gear and by rolling, turned the engine over forward, and backward. It seemed like normal engine compression. I then hit the starter it turned over as normal and as usual starts running perfectly. After several miles and a couple of days of hot and cold starts has not repeated the problem. I've read about the starter clutch problems some of you have had but have not heard of this symptom. Any response will be welcome.

Has this happened to anyone else?

Thanks

Could it be your chain - maybe needs lube ?
Sounds silly I know but I've head of it happening before.

I had my engine lock up once too - I will have to replace the starter clutch soon.

Thanks for responding. Yes it did seem like the engine was locked up. So you think this temporarily jammed starter clutch is an indicator of it failing in the near future?

I've had a lot of Bikes and never had any starter, or starter system, problems. Runs fine now though. Drive chain OK, Bike well maintained.

Thanks again.

Hurricanes generally need a new starter clutch after about 50000 miles, so yours may have just been a glitch. Keep an eye on it though.............
