spitting from one of the carbs
Hey guys. Been almost a year since i purchased my 93 Hurricane and i cant say enough good things about it!! About to hit 50k miles and runs like a champ except for a recent problem that has developed.
When the engine and the ambient temps are cool, it has a periodic spitting noise that sounds like its coming from one of the carbs. Once the engine warms up, its fine. A friend told me to change the plugs, and although I didnt think it was the problem, I did. No change.
Im under the impression the carbs need syncing but I talked to a mechanic and he seemed hesitant that this might be the problem. Any thoughts?
Oh, I bought an 02 FZ 1 over the weekend to add to the stable. Nice riding bike!

Carb Thoughts
Since the problem goes away once the engine warm, the balancing of the carbs may not be the problem. I would think that it is a boot gasket between the carb and the intake. It is probably the part where the rubber boot meets the engine area. Since that is were heat would have the more noticable effect. Either the band has loosened up or a slight leak is there until the engine warms up and expands the intake area metal.
If it were electrical, the problem would get worse as the engine heats up. Electrics hate heat, heat destroys electrical components.
So, check those bands that are holding the rubber boot to the intake flang.
If this doesn't work, call a Plumber. Steve you out there?

Hello everyone! I wanted to give an update to this original post. I posted the carb spitting problem again and received feedback on a different thread.
I checked for an intake for leaks and couldnt find one on the boots, so i decided to sync the carbs. When looking for the carbtune attachments on the carbs i noticed a cap missing from one of the carbs(The attachment point for the carbtune) and I immediately knew that was the culprit. So after i synched the carbs, I made a cap and slid it on the vaccum point to block it off. All is well now!!! Thanks for the help guys!
