Scary Handling
I'm getting that feeling too, I've shoved the old pads back in (still about 2-3mm on them) and will tackle this another day. Sick of this bike standing around with problems and not being on the road where it belongs. I've heard that bleeding the system with methylated spirits and leaving overnight helps to loosen up crud built up in the calipers. Is this fact or fiction?
I'm struggling to understand quite how many pints you may have had to consume to even begin to believe that theory!
Alcohol and oil are not keen companions. Putting anything other than brake fluid in your brake circuit would be suicide and an untterly pointless waste of time other than to make sure you [I]have[I] to strip your bakes down the bare bones and rebuild them anyway.
I totally understand your frustration about not being able to ride. We've probably all been there at some point where everything comes on top at once.
As long as you feel the bike is safe to ride then get out there but plan that rebuild sooner rather than later. New brakes put a bigger smile on your face than being constantly worried about squeaks, vibration and lack of performance when you need to stop quickly.
For gawds sake though, don't go putting meths in your brake lines. You may not live to regret it.
So if I'm understanding you correctly you think it's a bad idea
Sounded a bit daft to me so I asked first. Was a bit suspect of what would happen if there were any trace amounts of meths when fresh fluid was introduced back into the system. Also wondered where all the dirt that was dislodged would magically disappear to.
I will strip down the calipers this weekend and give them a good cleaning and hopefully replace the seals (if I can find someone that has stock) else just VERY carefully refit the ones that are in there since they don't leak now and hope for the best. Honda South Africa are absolutely useless and at this stage I don't have time to import spares. If these leak I'll have to get someone to fabricate brackets for the 954 calipers and use them.
Thanks for the input

If anyone has dirt in their lines, they have bigger problems than they think.
I have to believe it is easier to get replacement seals for the original calipers than trying to fabricate brackets to fit 954 squeezers to your ride...even in SA.
...Although you did say 1990 CBR Frankinstein!
You may want to do the math and see if the ratio of piston square area is even close.

Well I'm with ya on this issue as the right caliper on my 90 is binding , going to pull both fronts and rebuild both and add dual SS Lines probably pull the master clean it
out and put a new master piston seal kit in there and forget about it for 2 years
