Getting the silicone out is easier than getting the covers off sometimes - just dig the lump out with a screwdriver, and put a new blob in when done.

You can solve the problem the same way honda did.

Change to the later PLASTIC pin plug.

Never had a problem since I changed to the plastic one - and never had a pin come loose either.
