ORIGINAL: hmm

Well, I was too embarrassed to reply to my own thread but have now plucked up the courage. Reason for embarrassment - the battery had almost no water in it. Now it does, my 1990 F-L starts first time every time and my heated jacket doesn't kill the battery. I also bought a digital volt meter gizmo (from fatboyzdiner.co.uk) that shows me my battery is charging at between 11.9 and 15 volts (within the reg/rec spec I think). It also shows time, temperature, ice warnings.... but tempts me to take my eyes off the road too much!
Yeah I boiled the water out of mine last summer and when winter hit... the battery was toast. I got a new one for Christmas and all is well again.
Yours will need to be replaced too. Once they go dry, thats it. Game over. Yeah it might work for a while, but sooner or later it will leave you stranded.
BTW I put the same Volt/Clock/Temp-o-meter thingy on mine! I love it!

Yeah, yeah.... I did same thing when I got my 87. Head light was offten flashing and starter motor was making strange clicking noise sometimes. I was freaked out and jumpedinto this forum and asked aroud, "what is the problem??". Very next day I just check the battery, and guess what... Almost no water in it.
