I'll let you know what happens when I receive the RR.

Say Dub - did you get your money back?
Did you buy through EBay?
Did you buy using PayPal?
Naga, it looks like they took the "Workable Models" directly from your excellent report on R/R's.

Hey:

Naga,

Say Dub - did you get your money back? No
Did you buy through EBay? Yes
Did you buy using PayPal? Yes

Too much time had passed between me checking it out and and when I ordered it, as I was out of the country for a couple of months, and did not get it before I left like I had hoped. I "ll find something to use it on.

Hey Naga, how did/does the Chinese R/R go compared to OEM or the Electrex RR23? I blew mine recently. I've been reading your report on the RR23 and was keen to purchase one until I saw your comment that it lasted only 4 years. Have I got this right?

From my experience..
  1. Chinese one will not work (on our bike - wrong design).
  2. OEM honda - works - expensive - old technology - less efficient in charging.
  3. Electrx RR23 - works - good service from UK company - new technology - more efficient in charging.
What causes RR to blow?
  1. More often than not - old battery that has not been maintained. This then puts extra load on the RR.
What would I do if mine blew today.
  1. Buy Electrx RR23.
  2. Check battery age / condition. Replace if in any doubt with MOTOBATT MBTX14AU AGM 12V 16.5Ah 190CCA Motorcycle
Battery. You can buy online for cheaper price.
  3. Check charging voltages when replaced parts.

Naga (and others who may know), does the RR23 plug straight up to a 1989 model CBR1000F? Just want to make sure before I buy online.

Cheers.

No. Not a plug to socket fit. (The Honda RR is a propriety plug / socket).

But Good news - you only have to change over the plug on the wire-loom side with the one that they send you. As seen in the picture below....

Hi Guys,

Sadly I have to chime in here. Mine just cooked itself it rather spectacular fashion. I turned on the ignition and it was like one of those 80s movies where the bad guy wired a bomb to the ignition Plumes of smoke from the left side of the engine and crackling sounds like a good wood fireplace. Damn and blast...

Turns out the plug to the alternator is completely melted. I pulled the tail off and the reg looks fine. I did the resistance test as in the manual and get infinity on all pins, reversed polarity and got infinity on everything again. Can I lay it at the regs feet that the wiring melted or can it be something else? A mechanic friend suggested the alternator brushes are too short. I thought the CBR was brushless?

Please give me a clue as to where to from here

Thanks

I tested the regulator when it was off the bike since the wiring is toast. Not sure if this is the correct procedure?
