Regulator / Rectifier CBR1000F (Honda/UK Electrex RR23 or Ebay China))
Regulator / Rectifier CBR1000F Options (Honda/UK Electrex RR23 or Ebay China)
I've a 1990 CBR1000F model - In 21 years I've blown the following R/Rs
eBay Australia: Buy new & used fashion, electronics & home d Anyone else tried one or will I be the first to write the test report? |
Looks like you will be the Guinea Pig.
Let us know. |
Basically, a rectifier changes AC to DC, and a regulator bleeds off excess current as heat. My old GS1000 had a separate regulator and rectifier, which was a great idea, but it took up too much real estate. I have a single R/R by Electrex on there now. Any R/R can work if the wiring is correct.
My friend's VFR has a small computer fan on the cooling fins of his R/R. Since the R/R on our CBR's have no cooling fins, could an air scoop or fan be installed? |
Hi Slowpoke,
Thanks for your thoughts.... you might be interested in my previous notes on R/Rs for our bikes. Download here... http://tinyurl.com/734engf |
Hec, at that price buy 2. Then you wont be stranded when the first one dies.

Then you wont be stranded again when the first one dies. :)
I don't know about those Chinese models, Martin. OK around town but I'd never trust one on a long run without a "proper" one as backup. And I'm not talking about an original Honda one as backup either.... You'd probably have to call Johnno again and the wine bill could be excessive  :) |
Personally I think the key to RR longevity is keeping a good battery
in the bike as a battery that's just about had it can take a good RR down the drain with it. 3 seasons and I toss my battery for a spanking new one |
Hi Shadow and Sprock
Sprock - I fully agree with your logic about having a properly maintained battery in good order. Now .. I don't know what it is with these early Honda electrics - Some guys seem to get a lot of trouble and others seem to get by without even having to know what an RR or a stator is. FYI in my case -
Guys - the frustrating thing is the RRs don't seem to last for me. From my experience
Will let you all know on the Chinese RR - I don't expect it to be a panacea - just maybe a copy of the Electrex one at half the price. |
Hey:
NAGA, just to let you know I tried one of these that had the same pic but a different company and it did not have the correct amount of connectors, so could not be used. So please check it out before wasting your money. Dub |
