Just tested my battery voltage with the bike (light off) running at 1000rpm it's charging 14.4V and @ 3000 it's 14.8V!!!! I don't think it should be doing this?!!!!!
Stopped the bike key turned off, tested the battery 14V turned key and light on back down to 11.8V, light off back to 12V.
Something not right!!

When you followed the steps shown in the Service Manual Chapter 14 and specifically the flow chart from page 14-3 you will have noted that so far all is OK.
"Regulated Voltage: 12.6-15.0V/5,OOO min-' (rpm)"
Suggestion... take your time ... follow steps from page 14-3 and let us know how you go or if you need more help.
yeah robbie if it goes into the high 15 16 17 area the rr is cooked
You may just have a bum battery and corroded rr connectors
14 .8 is okay your rr will output higher than flat 12v .....usually around 13 ish
with a solid / good battery
a bad battery will work the hell out of an rr

OK, I have checked out the manual and yep you guys are right. Apparently you can't test the R/R unit on the H J but you can on K on!!!
Any ideas why the battery is going dry if it isn't over charging?!!!!
Thank Guys, I nearly bought another unit!!!!!
Forgot to mention. The connections are fine and the I bought the Battery new a year ago.

I won't waste our time with the "WHY's" but do this...
- Connect a meter to measure volts across the battery.
- Start the bike.
- Rev the bike to 7,000RPM (If the meter reading not over 15.5v all is OK)
- Turn on each electrical device you ever use in turn (lights + indicators + Heated grips? + +) till you fully load the electrical system.
- With turning on each device, Rev the bike to 7,000RPM (If the meter reading not over 15.5v all is OK)
- Having done this and the battery is going dry then the battery is faulty.
