Depends if your current one is "cooked" or not. It would be a temp fix to get you mobile until one can arrive from Electrex. Nothing worse than not being able to ride.................

Robbie,

If you decide to go for the Electrex unit, bring 2 in, I'll buy one to put aside for a rainy day

Question on the electrex . It looks like the original is different from the electrex as pertains to the wiring. The electrex has a pigtail where the original looks like a female plug? opinions on that or am I not seeing it correctly? Mine is fine now , but I do a lot of solo away from normal highways. Thinking to replace as this seems to be a high usage part..

It comes with a male and female plug Grendl and all connectors (brass). Easy to change on the side of the road if you have to - take 5 mins. Problem is you'll generally only know if you have a problem when the bike stops (ask me how I know) and these bikes won't push start too well I know this to be true

Bolts have to be longer too due to thickness of heatsink but it still fits fine on the frame where it should.

I'm pretty sure mine is stuffed because I have had to top the battery up a couple of time over the last few months. I just noticed white battery acid on the main stand the other day and it's coming from the battery overflow!!!!! So, I guessed the battery is boiling dry!

TK, a new one from the UK might have to wait for a wile as it will cost around $200 landed, bit much at the moment!!
I will check out a secondhand one for now.
Cheers and thanks guys for the input.

Don't forget to flush with lots of hot water where ever the battery acid leaked!

Mix a bit of bicarb in the water to help neutralize the acid, do it soon or you could get all kinds of nasty things start to happen, stuffed paint, electrical shorts etc...
