Rattlecanned/Rustoleum paint job
Hey everybody, thought I would document my cheapo paint job here. I'm basing this entire project off of this guy, hopefully I can make it through this with half the success he had.
Here is where I started:
stripped with Aircraft stripper,
sanded with 220 and three coats of Bondo for the dents:
rubbed with acetone then four coats of Rustoleum Stops Rust Sandable Primer (in black):
Here is how it currently sits:
Awaiting wetsanding tomorrow. I plan on picking up several cans of Rustoleum Stops Rust gloss black (from my research it stands up the best to fuel). We'll see how things progress. Maybe I'll get something half-way presentable out of this in the end!
I'll take pics of the fairings too when I get to them.

I'm pretty sure gas will eat right through rattle can paint unless it is covered by two part clear coat such as SpayMax 2K
SprayMax 2K Urethane Aerosol Clear Coat
Just my two cents.

I've got the 2k aerosol now. I haven't applied it yet, as I have to finish up some detailing and wait for the warmer weather to spray (hoping next month). I got a bit of gas on the tank (i hit it hard with clear, albiet not a fuel resistant one) and it didn't eat through like I thought it would - but I did wipe it up right away. I wouldn't trust to leave it on for any length of time.
But yes, they are right, best to either 1) spray with the 2k after paint (cans are expensive though...) 2) get it professionally cleared 3) be REALLY careful when you fill

Looking good Corrupt! I did some quick wetsanding today. Block sanded with 400 and I gotta say I see almost no evidence of my Bondo work, I'm pleased with that.
I hope to start painting the color tomorrow. Plan is to apply per instructions: one light coat, wait a few minutes, then a medium coat, then cure 48 hours and sand. I won't bake it until the final coat is on then do final sanding and polishing.
