Default raising the bar...bars

im tall, im old, i need the bars higher. i have a 1990 cbr1000f. iv done a lot of searching but found nothing. i want to make this thing have a more touring like seating position.

its got clipons with 3/4 inch risers already. bike came this way. i need about another inch or more. i may be able to do that without replacing cables and stuff. but i cant find adjustable clip on style risers! forks r 41mm.

info please.

thanks
matt

Okay Welcome again Matt, you can go with VFR 750 Bars 92-96 or Genmar risers or DanMoto 3D Clipons in 41mm ......to name but a
few options more expensive options being woodcraft , apex, vortex, profi , heli etc.

also a Corbin seat with Ulyesses Pegs or Cycle Pirates can be used to refine the touring position you seek
and as you move more upright an MRA or equivalent Touring screen will help a lot too

DanMoto 3D
......in the process of putting these on my 93 in place of the existing VFR bars (not adjustable enough for me)

That's a very good point Kerri-Ann but as Steve may have said to you some people
like myself like the sportier handing and abilities of the 1000F and chose make the
bike just a little more optimized for comfort on long distances ....as the OP indicated
his issues were mainly to do with his physical height and wants a little more comfort in
part due to being a more senior sportbike rider..... I'd subscribe to those requirements
myself but hey what would I know I live on an Island 300 feet x 400 feet

" ClassicKerri-ann: Is it so amazing what they can do with toxic landfill sites these days Mark-ie but does having 3 arms bother you much ? :-)"

Hey:

I don't know about Sprock but....

It would depend on where they are located, as a few places could be handy

Why thank you DUB me auld mate ......... and hey Steve-ie we are
allowed a difference of opinion ......now if I had 3 arms ...I'd be needing
three riser bars wouldn't I !? - but it might come in dead handy (no pun
intended ) come refreshments time ..... 3 Bourbons at a time might make
some sense

So back to Matt's inquiry .... reckon Matt there's plenty of options to choose from out
there for risers man.......... as always depends on the budget...... brake, throttle &
choke line lengths most certainly become a very valid consideration the higher those
bars go tho'.

If people are looking for a touring style seating position or have any issues with a sport bikes configuration , why not buy a tourer in the first place ?
There are quite a few good road bikes with the power, looks and the seating positions ,that are way more touring friendly than a CBR ?

Having said that . go with what Mr Sprock said .
i got it because it was too cheap to pass up! LOL . it was a friends who took great care of it.

i rode it today and im getting a bit more used to it.

my other bike is a V-Strom. i got spoiled by all the room that thing has. i do alot of long distance rides on it. i can stay on it til the tank goes dry, (250 miles) at a time. rode from alabama to pittsburg PA not long ago.

Definitely a good reason.
I can see what Kerri is saying, tho..... there are other S/T bikes with just as much or more power and a more relaxed position. But usually they cost more, too.
I have no trouble riding the CBR all day long, but I can see it getting worse with age. Once in a while my knees will bug me a little bit after a few hundred miles. Not really bad, though. I'm about 6'2"

I too was looking for a little less 'on my arms' stance and picked up a set of VFR bars off of ebay. Only thing is they won't slide over my fork tubes, too small. Is there a trick I need to know, or did I fall prey to "item not as described"?

They could be the ones made for 39mm tubes. Or they could just not be open enough.

Yep you would not be the first to get the 39mm bars from a VFR 89 and prior

VFR 750 Bars from 90 to 96 I believe are 41mm , mine came off a 92
