Doing soon the CCT on my 1988 with a new CCT from '90-'96 model.
There are 2 parts that are not on the '88 model diagram:

Chain Oiler Guide
Chain Oiler Plate

My questions, are they needed and will they fit without modifications to the cylinder head?

Bolts right on, just that easy. I found one on my 87 so it's probably a common retrofit

One more question, do they require 2 bolts or are they attached to the 2 front bolts of the CCT?

No doubt someone will have done this and can advise you from first hand experience.

But, in the meantime, I would strongly advise you read this 'How To', by the late Michael Parks (God rest his soul), if you haven't already done so.

They're held in place by two of the head nuts. They designed the oiler guide to direct oil down into the cct chamber, if that makes sense. Installation would just be a matter of removing the two head nuts, tossing the washers, installing the oil guide piece with the plate on top, then rebolting

Once you have the cams out it should be a bit more obvious where they go cause there's really only one place they will fit, and I don't think it would be possible to put them in backwards

The writeup Hawkwind shared has some good pictures of what it'll look like, so that's probably a good place to start

Well shucks - but I will say that I'm no expert on these bikes. I'm still pretty fresh to mine, and engines are all pretty similar when it comes down to it. From poking around the forum I'll say there's a lot of members with an encyclopedic knowledge of these bikes and all their various quirks

Hawkwind is definitely one of those folks, along with a lot of the other OG's. I lean on their experience quite a bit, since tuning/troubleshooting isn't my strong suit

 

I look forward to cracking mine open, especially with all the fabulous info around here.
