Question about my front tyre
A friend of mine said the other day that my front tyre is bad, I wonder if he is right about this. Cos in the middle approx 22mm wide the tyre is a bit flat, the is not rounded all the way, but this MUST be right because its have to be more wear in the middle then on the sides of the tyre? The tyre has been driven for about 8000 km.
You're gonna have to post up a pic for us to see ... or just see if your tire is down to it's "wear bars" in it's tread design ... all tires have them as an approximate gauge as to when your tire is shot ...
You may be ok with that flat spot untill you hit the wear bars, but do you feel the flat spot? Cause I know in my car if I jam the brakes(no abs) I get flat spots and I can feel them And I hate it LOL!! I would be a lil leary in turns or slow speeds, unless you dont feel it at all.
Ok wait ... flat spots like braking/skidding flat spots ? .... or the highway strip you get in the middle of your tire from commuting long distances ?? ... one is no big deal .. the other kinda aint good for your tires balance ... lol
Awwww, just take it to the canyons and lean it over a bit!
Like 9-5=4rr said, a flat stip in the middle is prolly from a softer compound tire being run in a straight line, whereas, choppy flat spots could be a balance problem, skid marks or just a bad tire.
Either way pics are pretty much a necessity

For some tyres 8000km isn't a bad run. If it's a softer compound tyre, you've done ok out of it.
Pics would help for sure, as well as the make and model of the tyres. Somebody else might have the same and be able to help more.
My opinion would be; if you're in doubt, change it! There's not much point to finding out the hard way that the rubber's too thin.

If it's because it's squared off then you may be getting to the end of the tyres life.
Here in the UK the rule is 2mm minimum tread depth across the full width of the tyre (i.e. from edge to edge).
So even though there may be plenty of meat left around the edges of the tyre, in the middle you may have less than 2mm. On a bike you'll feel a big improvement in the feel of the handling with new tyres, even when it's just a front on it's own.
Having said all this, I've ridden my tyres down to the threads once, I was lucky, I'd never do it again. It was just inexperience, never had a bike before and thought they were OK, got home and wondered what the white stripes were
