Default Petcock Question

1)
Hi can someone confirm what i think i've gathered from numerous scanning of this site. Sitting on the bike looking down between your legs, what do you see... if your dressed that is, of course the Petcock. (well half right..) This device has 3 spigots. one facing down, one to the right and one to the rear. I hope i have this right , the one going down is the fuel feed to the carbs, the one pointing right is the vacuum pipe and the one facing rearwards (even though its the biggest) is an overflow. Firstly is this correct.

2)
A follow up, once we've established which is the fuel feed to the carbs can someone actually show me (tell doesn't count "in the carbs") where the fuel inlet is on the carbs.

Thats all my pressing questions for now.

Regards

Rich

What year is the bike? Do you have the shop manual for it? This should help.

I saw that bike for sale on E-Bay. I was very tempted myself, looked like a good project.

Hey Rich,

Don't forget that fuel will not flow unless vacuum is applied to the petcock assembly.

A vacuum line runs from the engine to the petcock.

To 'prime' the carbs, if they're dry, you can pull the vacuum line off the engine and suck on it strongly for a number of times.

This allows some fuel to flow into the carbs and shortens the time spent on the starter button before the engines fires up.

Good luck with your project.

Cheers,

Dennis

If you have one of these, you can use it as well.

Hawk, pleased to meet a fellow Brit. I got it for 500 so couldn't resist, however there are lots of little bits missing and lots damaged so might have been financially better to buy one that was running.. But i like a project , keps me busy. Let me know if your up my way..

Hi All, been doing a lot more digging and thanks to a super mod in Florida, you know who you are, who pointed me to some on line manuals, i seem to be able to answer my own questions. so the Petcock , Even though it seems obvious i had it wrong , the fuel feed to the carbs is the large pipe pointing backwards, and the one pointing down is still a mystery... anyone.. have a look on your bike and tell me!

Now the fuel inlet to the carbs, once again the on line manuals sorted this. the pipe goes from the RH side of the carb under the tank and onto the LARGE pipe from the petcock.

All pics are attached and i must say they helped in many more ways with pipe routing.

So thanks a million to Mr Florida.. what a place to Own and Ride a CBR1000f...

Rich

Oh, how do i upload my pics as thumbnails...

SHOOT ME!!!! just looked at my tank and the above picture showing the petcock is correct. the vacuum pipe may be positioned on the RH face but the pipe POINTS backwards, so the picture is right. The Vacuum and the Fuel pipe are next to each other. Still dont know what the one pointing down is...
