Nope, it will only use as much gas as you ask it to. High fuel consumption is almost always related to self control issues.

oohh and i just checked the extra foot of hose i have left ... its not 5/8 .. its is 3/8 like cbr1988 said .. dont no y i was thinking 5/8

 

That last pic shows no pump ! looks gravity fed am I missing something ?

Pod filters too ! and TK is spot on - carbs will only take in as much juice as
you ask it to with your wrist

 

I went back and read the thread form the beginning. Your bike dies after going up a hill. There is no mention of you pulling the fuel line after the filter to see if you are getting ample fuel supply.

Have you pulled the line to see if fuel is flowing freely?

You may have the petcock on RES and it is somewhat plugged. Lifting the tank may be dumping fuel in the run (ON) tube and that's why it runs after moving all the fuel to the rear of the tank.

well upon changing the fuel filter the bike seems to be running fine .going to take a longer ride to see if things have improved .. will report back tomorrow ride safe guys and thanks for the great info

 

After you mentioned the fuel line size, I think I see the problem. You may have the fuel going into the vent lines for the carbs instead of the fuel lines. Very easy to mix those hoses up.

 

Just as a bit of encouragement Epic I had some major issues with my '87 last year. Constant fuel pump issues (it had been sitting for about 10 years).

So now, no fuel pump, good sized fuel lines, and a very small drilled hole under the the gas cap because I seemed to have a major air intake issue to the gas tank.

Club ride a couple of weeks ago, was running at 220+ km/h for about 15 minutes until "Sensible Tony" took over and reminded me that I need my license for my work.

 

check for a loose batery cable or a unsheated wire under the thank, and try to see if it does when not sitting on the bike aand when sitting on it, it may sound weird but it happened to me, it was a wire that was unsheated and when i was sitting on the bike it would them move and touch a metal part doing weird stuff, these gremlins are usualy ahad to find..does your battery goes down when you don't use the bike for a few days?, the 88 has some bizzarre wire routing...
