noisy alternator bearings
my 1988 hurricane has a noisy alternator. I've replaced the alternator chain tensioner and starter damper along with the cam chain. The bearing noise has become irritating , although, it's only really noticeable at low revs and ticker. There noise definitely comes from the alternator region.
I decided that the easiest bearing to replace was the small one in the outer casing, that made no difference !!
Now I have removed the alternator completely in order to replace the back bearing next to the flanged nut, but I believe the problem lies with the big bearing inside the alternator.
Can anyone tell me how to get this large bearing out?
Thanks guys

I have replaced all three bearings - 2 in the alternator itself and one located in the crankcase at the right hand end of the splined shaft.
It still is noisy !!!!
It can only be the alternator chain, its the only thing I haven't replaced. I have fitted a new alt chain tensioner, so I am now thinking that the chain is so stretched, the tensioner does not have enough movement to take up the slack.
I will not be splitting the engine again any time soon, I put up with the noise. !

If the alternator chain were overstretched you would get a grinding sound on crank - ie the starter runs off the same chain
I've long ago resigned myself to the fact that these bikes (almost all Honda's of this vintage) are noisy. I have a noisy Hurricane, a noisy Goldwing, and a noisy V65 Magna. If/when I blow an engine I'll eat my words, but I don't really think the chain noise makes any difference at all
The only 100% fix I've found is putting a set of headphones inside my helmet. That fixed the noise instantly
