Hi, if the bolt head has broken off then there will not be any tension in the bolt body. It will be easy to undo - I agree with the method hmm used as I have used that a couple of times before. You can afford to be brutal with the bolt because you won't be using it again. I'd simply drill a small diameter hole in it and then screw in a stud extractor. It should come out really easily. Or use a cold chisel and a hammer to make a screwdriver shaped slot and use a screwdriver to ease it out. Or if you are really desperate, use an old screwdriver and hammer on the edge of the bolt head to GENTLY tap it round. That has worked before too.

Good luck

Thanks for all your input guys, got it fixed!

Contrary to what I was told by a friend, 1 out of 5 springs makes a HUGE difference. I was able to get the old bolt out by just pushing it in a circle with the tip of a screwdriver. Went down to the hardware store and got a replacement, could not find any grade8 in metric though....anyway, the clutch now disengages right away, barely takes any effort!

I know this is an old thread, but I just broke a spring bolt today too! Very week bolts! Anyhow, I was upset at the thought of having to buy a big socket, unstake the center nut, buy a new nut, and buy a new center basket! I didn't think it could come off that easy I'm going to try to remove the stud with a chisel in the morning! Gotta love the forums!

I took the broken bolt (stud) in less than two minutes with a screwdriver and no force. Just used the edge of the screwdriver to turn it lightly and it came out with no resistance!
